The world of traditional costumes in all its facets

Traditional Austrian costumes are more popular than ever. It seems like they are timeless and always modern. Many people enjoy wearing typical clothes, they have creative ideas and wishes and at the Manufactory of traditional costumes all that becomes reality. It's a long way from the idea to a masterpiece and Elisabeth Pirchheim and her team sees traditional costumes as "a part of me and a part of you".

In the manufactory the visitors receive an overview of the work of the dressmakers. They get to know different raw materials and structures of the fabrics. There is a possibility to look at the fabric through a microscope. The visitors learn about the difference between chemical and natural fiber. Elisabeth's daughter is specialized in dyeing and printing of fabrics. She works with natural colours and partly historic models. As a result she gets dyed aprons, blouses and skirts. The colours come from special pieces of plants like roots, leaves, peels and rind. Plants like kurkuma, walnut, madder and dyer's weed contribute to the dyeing process. They can be seen in the garden behind the house in the garden oasis of Cornelia Moosbauer.

At the end of the tour you can enjoy a fascinating exhibition of traditional costumes and craftsmanship.
